Anoop Desai – robbed because lacking ’sob story’?

ANOOP DESAI FOR THE WILDCARD
How disappointing.
Yes, Anoop Desai was voted American Idol last week – reportedly he received the fourth highest-amount of votes, but since this year’s format of American Idol only takes three people to the Top 12, Anoop was voted off the show.
Do you know how he was voted off, even though he turned in one of the best performances of the night?
He was voted off because apparently, America loves contestants who have background stories.
Guy with dead wife? He’s through.
Girl with a baby? She’s through.
Guy who works in an oil-rig? He’s through.
Guy with amazing voice, massive likeability and is taking masters’ degree at UNC?
Nope, not through.
Now, don’t get me wrong - Alexis Grace and Danny Gokey both deserved their places in the Top 12 (I’m cringing as I’m writing Gokey deserved his place), but Michael Sarver (oil-rig guy)? Come on! The guy can hardly sing!
Just because he’s a nice guy doesn’t mean he HAS to go through the Top 12, Simon Cowell! Are you saying the other contestants aren’t nice? And by what Ryan Seacrest and the other judges (Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul) say on the show, Anoop seems to be liked by everybody – sounds like manipulation to get that ’shock-factor’, to me! This year, Idol seems to be willing to sacrifice talent for pure idiocy (read – Tatiana Del Toro, Nick Mitchell). Now, I love Nick Mitchell, but just think who could’ve gone through instead of him and Tatiana (the weird-laugh girl). So far in this year’s season of American Idol, I’ve only liked one contestant – so, Anoop Desai for the wildcard!
If Anoop doesn’t get through, American Idol will forever lose the college demographic they’ve been looking for (soaps, anyone?), lose a commercially-viable and marketable contestant and also a versatile musician.
